# Palawan and El Nido

- Not a cheap flight, but amazing.
- Transport on the island is poor.
- Gateway: Puerto Princesa; direct flights to El Nido too.
- Insect repellent is a must.

### El Nido

- Jumping-off point for the Bacuit archipelago: 45 limestone islands.
- The place to splurge on private-island trips.

#### Where to stay

- Francisco Inn: 600 PHP per room with air conditioning; cold water only in the showers.
- Where 2 Next El Nido: a cool campsite, 300–500 PHP per person.

#### Attractions

- Island hopping: a must; see below.
- Clear kayaks.
- Beaches (check which ones have sand flies):
  - Corong Corong: not very clean.
  - Marimegmeg Beach: the best beach, but the most touristy (100 PHP by tricycle from El Nido).
  - Nacpan Twin Beach: also very nice.
  - Further away: Verde Safari Beach.
- A few waterfalls and treks in the area.

#### Island hopping

- Four main tours: A, B, C, D.
- Best: A (about 1,200 PHP) and C (about 1,400 PHP).
- Environmental fee, sometimes: about 200 PHP, valid 10 days.
- Bargain: prices can drop 200–400 PHP per person.

- Clear Kayak El Nido: also rents clear kayaks.

#### Diving

- Not amazing, but not bad.
